Roman De Angelis and THOR’s No. 23 Aston Martin Valkyrie returned to Watkins Glen International for Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen, part of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Series, to claim a 9th place finish.
Though qualifying was marred by heat, De Angelis’ driving partner Ross Gunn was able to secure a ninth place finish on Saturday.
Adding to the weekend heat, De Angelis and Gunn battled rainy conditions within the first hour of the main event and were able to maneuver around nine separate caution periods throughout the race. De Angelis maintained P5 into the final hour of the race, until a fuel call from the team brought him into pit lane just as a caution was issued, putting them at the back in the pack and making them work to restore their position for their ninth place finish.
“It was a good day for the entire team,” said De Angelis. “Everyone executed really well and our pit stops were really strong. I felt like we were jumping cars at every stop. The race was a bit tough. Ross and I both struggled a bit with the heat, but think we were able to hold our own. We stayed on the lead lap there going into the final minutes. We did what we could and now are looking forward to Road America.”
Roman and The Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage head to Canadian Tire Motorsports Park in Ontario, Canada to race the 7th round of the IMSA Weathertech Sportswear Championship on July 11.
