Road America Recap

August 2, 2026

Elkhart Lake, WI

Road America hosted the Motul SportsCar Endurance Grand Prix, a six-hour round of the IMSA WeatherTech Championship that turned into one of the most chaotic races of the season. Nine full-course cautions and well over two hours of yellow-flag running kept the field bunched up all afternoon, and the No. 23 Aston Martin THOR Team Valkyrie of Roman De Angelis and Ross Gunn was right in the thick of it with strong pace throughout.

Trading stints through the six hours, Roman and Gunn worked the Valkyrie up into second place as the laps wound down, with a podium finish firmly in reach. A final restart sent the race into disarray at the front, and contact with the No. 93 Meyer Shank Racing Acura in the closing laps triggered a post-race penalty review. The result: a penalty that dropped the No. 23 from second to fifth in the final classification.

Losing a podium after the checkered flag is never an easy pill to swallow, but the pace was undeniably there all weekend. Roman and the team turn their attention to Indianapolis next, where Battle on the Bricks awaits in September.
