Roman De Angelis and teammate Ross Gunn piloted The Heart of Racing’s No. 23 Aston Martin Valkyrie in the GTP category at the Motul SportsCar Weekend at Road America in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship; securing a team best 6th-place finish.
After qualifying 10th position on Saturday, just 0.681-seconds off pole, Gunn drove the first hour in the final. De Angelis took over and maintained in the top eight throughout his remaining 42 laps, including a caution where De Angelis and the team opted for a great pit stop which saw them gain a position, bringing them up to their sixth place finish.
“It was a good weekend for us, this our best result so far in the Heart of Racing Aston Martin Valkyrie,” said De Angelis. “The crew did an amazing job and Ross did a great job with qualifying just six tenths off pole. We are at the longest track and had the closest gap we’ve had to the front. The race was great. I really enjoyed finally getting to race against guys that have been here for years now in the GTP class. It was a great weekend and I can’t wait to build on it for Indy.” (courtesy of The Heart of Racing)
